How to store vegan blueberry rolls so they stay soft for days

When it comes to storing your homemade vegan blueberry rolls, it's important to keep them fresh and delicious. Once the rolls have cooled completely, you can store them in an airtight container or wrap them tightly with plastic wrap to prevent them from drying out.

1. Store at room temperature: It's best to store them at room temperature for up to 2-3 days for optimal freshness.

2. Storing for longer (freezing): If you plan to store them for a longer period, you can freeze the rolls individually or as a whole. Simply wrap them tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and place them in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag. Frozen vegan blueberry rolls can be stored for up to 2-3 months.

3. Re-heat before eating: To enjoy the blueberry rolls later, thaw them in the refrigerator overnight (if you froze them) and then reheat them in the oven or microwave for a warm and delicious treat.


Vegan Blueberry Rolls Recipe

Prep-time: 1o-15 minutes

Baking time: 20-25 minutes

Servings: 6 rolls


  • 500 g strong bread flour

  • 30 g white sugar

  • a dash of salt

  • 7 g instant yeast

  • 350 ml (luke-warm water)


  • 1/2 cup plant butter

  • 1/4 cup white sugar

  • 1 and 1/2 cup blueberry jam (tbh, the more the better)


  • 2 cups icing sugar

  • 1-5 tbsp water (use a little at a time so it's easier to adjust the thickness)

  • a drop of purple food coloring (the amount depends on the type of coloring you have)

  • a few drops of blueberry essence


1. In a stand mixer, combine all the ingredients (except water) and whisk briefly. Set the mixer to a slow speed and gradually add water until the dough comes together. Knead the dough on medium speed for 8-10 minutes.

2. Place clingfilm on top of the bowl with the dough and let it prove for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

3. Once the dough has risen, transfer it to a well-floured surface and roll it out into a large rectangle measuring approximately 36x20 cm, similar to the size of a kitchen towel.

4. Spread butter evenly over the dough, followed by a layer of blueberry jam, and sprinkle sugar on top. Use a pizza cutter to cut 6 lines in the dough, as shown in the video for reference. Roll up the dough tightly and place the rolls in a baking tin. Allow them to rise for another hour.

5. Preheat your oven to 180°C. While the oven is heating, prepare the icing by mixing icing sugar, water, and food coloring in a bowl. Set aside.

6. Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, keeping a close eye on them. If they start browning too quickly, you can cover them with foil.

7. Once baked, let the rolls cool for 10 minutes, then generously drizzle the icing on top. Enjoy the Vegan Blueberry Rolls while they're still warm for a scrumptious treat!
